With every new technological advance in the surveying industry, like AI-Equipped Vehicles, Drones, and even “robotic surveyors” like a LiDAR Robotic Dog, you might wonder if AI is the future? Ask yourself, will this equipment replace the human land surveyor?
Quick answer is NO. As these new tools and technologies come out, they are great but ultimately will not replace the traditional land surveyor role. Instead, they will help transform the profession. They enhance overall productivity, focus more on managing new ways to obtain information, and check and ensure the accuracy of the data.
Some reasons why the traditional land surveyor role will remain relevant in the future include the legal accountability that comes with being a land surveyor, and the need for legal certification. In potential court testimony for property disputes, the PLS would be the accountable party. Additionally, the ability to solve unexpected situations on the fly and think creatively in the field is something that AI simply cannot replicate.
AI is great and all, but it still cannot adapt and solve problems like the human mind can. The future is bright for land surveying, and it will only get better as time goes on.
Ultimately, we are here to stay!
