Are you tired of seeing political ads during each television commercial break or receiving text messages from organizations campaigning to get your vote? If you answered yes to either of these, then you are in luck, as election day is coming up in a little under a month, and it will all be done. In all seriousness, now is a good time to remind everyone of the importance and privilege we have as American citizens to get out and cast a vote on Tuesday, November 5th. If you are interested in participating in this upcoming Election Day, the last day to complete your registration for in-person voting is Monday, October 21st. Different polling sites will be set up all across the state. They will open at 7 AM on Election Day and remain open until 8 PM.
Voting in the election is a participation in democracy. All voters have equal power as one another regardless of money, status, etc. This is the number one way for everyone to have a say and express their beliefs about how the government operates at the national and local levels. The newly elected or reelected officials will make decisions on critical issues in the country, instilling new or maintaining previously created policies for these issues. Each election brings forth a new generation of voters with priorities different from those that came before them, which leaves an ever-changing world. This is not to be taken lightly, though, as the outcome of elections could have long-lasting effects on the world around us.
Voting is an opportunity for change, and it starts with the people. Deciding not to vote is giving up your say in the world around you. I hope everyone can find the time on November 5th to get out and vote. As the saying goes- every vote matters!
