Most of us may know someone who has been affected by certain life-threatening diseases. These could be loved ones or even sometimes a stranger. If you had a chance to make a life-saving difference to someone in need, would you be willing to join the bone marrow registry to potentially save their life?
Some of you may be aware that Richard Kline has been diagnosed with CMML (leukemia). He is currently being treated at Penn Medicine and is responding well to treatments. If all goes well, he will soon be a candidate for a bone marrow transplant. Richard has been a huge part of the success of this company and has had an impact on many of us professionally. His reach goes well beyond this company to the community. You can help those who are dealing with Richard's illness by becoming a bone marrow donor. You may not be a match for Richard, but he would want the word getting out about the donor program if it was one of his employees dealing with this illness.
Have you ever considered becoming a bone marrow donor? It’s a great way to give back to the community.
The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to establishing, maintaining, and improving a system that provides transplants of bone marrow and other hematopoietic cells from volunteer, unrelated donors for individuals with leukemia and other life-threatening blood diseases.
You may join the registry if you are between the ages of 18 and 40, meet the basic medical guidelines, reside in the United States and you are willing and able to donate to any patient in need.
Here’s how you can start helping patients in need:
- Register online - Join the Registry | NMDP (Formerly Be The Match)
- Order a free test kit.
- Swab cheek.
- Get matched. Stay committed. Be patient.
- Say “yes” when asked to donate.
Acting as a donor, you give a shot at hope and healing to another person by potentially being the one to save their life.
Should you feel ready to make a difference and save a life, take the first step today by registering to be a bone marrow donor!
