Students will compete this month in The Chester County Envirothon to test their knowledge across a variety of environmental topics. The 2-day outdoor event is for students in grades 3-12 and is held each year by the Chester County Conservation District. The Chester County Envirothon is part of a larger program, which helps students from all over the state understand the environment and the role people play in it.
Students from schools across the county will meet in Hibernia Park, spend the day outdoors, and learn and compete with one another. The 2026 event begins on Wednesday, April 22nd for elementary schools. Middle school and high school teams will gather on Thursday, April 23rd. The goal for high school teams is to advance to the State Envirothon and potentially the National Envirothon.
Teams will show their knowledge of wildlife, forestry, aquatics, soils and current issues. This year’s “environmental issue”, determined at the national level is “Non-Point Source Pollution”.
The overall high school winner of the Chester County Envirothon will go on to compete in the state competition, scheduled for May 20th at Camp Mount Luther in Mifflinburg. The team that excels to the national level event will be headed to Mississippi State University in July.

Winners of the 2025 Envirothon at the senior level: Avon Grove High School Team A
Howell is once again a proud sponsor of this event, helping ensure it runs smoothly and is enjoyable for all competitors. Working as a volunteer for the past few years, it's cool to see the excitement each team brings. These are bright kids who prepare for months and are really invested in learning more about the environment.
If you’d like to become a sponsor or are a school looking to compete in the event, find additional information here. Best of luck to all our local teams!
