The permitting process for Land Development can be one of the most challenging aspects of our work. Between deadlines, county reviews and client expectations, every day brings something new to juggle. Our team dedicates a significant amount of time to ensuring each project progresses smoothly, while keeping both the County and our clients happy. Sometimes, that means we end up in the middle, trying to meet regulations while still bringing a client’s vision to life. It is not always easy, but it is part of what makes the work rewarding when everything finally comes together.
Our days here at Terrain can definitely get stressful working with clients and county reviewers. When Terrain joined the Howell family in 2022, a few fun changes came with it. One of the best was the idea of dogs at work. Howell has always had a dog-friendly atmosphere, and it didn’t take long for that to spread through the Terrain office.
Having dogs in the office makes a big difference. They bring a sense of calm, lift everyone’s mood and make a lasting pawsitive impression on clients and visitors, which makes the days a little brighter. Studies have even shown that dogs can help ease stress and improve focus and creativity. Plus, they give us a reason to step away from our desks for a quick break, which always helps when things get hectic. When things get stressful for me, I lean on Boom!
Meet Boomer!

Boomer has been a coworker of mine for about two years now, and even though I don’t get to see him every day, Fridays have quickly become my favorite day of the week. That’s when Kelly, our Lead Engineer, brings him in. Every Friday morning, as soon as I walk through the door, Boomer comes running up with his tail wagging and his whole body wiggling. He lets out this happy little growl that says he’s excited to see everyone. It’s honestly the best greeting ever and a reminder that a little joy and connection can make the workplace feel a lot more human and a lot more fun.
What kind of construction are dogs best at? Roofing.
